Carne asada fries on the eve of fasting days

One of my favorite indulgences on the evenings before days of fasting is carne asada fries. With Ash Wednesday on the calendar tomorrow, it makes today Mardi Gras, and therefore a perfect excuse for a short trip to our local Mexican takeout.

For the uninitiated, carne asada fries are a very American Mexican dish. It starts with a base of French fries, upon which are heaped unhealthy amounts of cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and thinly sliced, heavily seasoned grilled steak.

Regrettably, Mrs. Jake and I ate the dish so quickly that I forgot to get a photo. No problem. I’m just going to attach a photo from five years ago. Carne asada fries never go out of style.
